The second studio album by San Holo: ‘bb u ok?’ was announced at 17:00UTC on 3rd February, 2021. The album was initially scheduled to be officially released on 21st May, 2021 but later delayed by two weeks to finally release on 4th June, 2021.
The album was written in 2019 and was originally due to release in 2020. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the cancellation of shows.etc, the album release was postponed to 2021.
The album centres around the rhetoric: ‘bb u ok?’ a question to ask yourself and the others around you. Life is so fast-paced these days: we often don’t take the time to answer this question genuinely so it’s easy to fall out of touch with yourself and the people you love. The album focuses on keeping genuine conversations and connections, which keep us going.
The album was written on Ewing Street in Echo Park, LA. San Holo likes to write his music in Los Angeles, saying in his ‘album1’ documentary that he finds use in writing in a different location – not in the studio. He especially enjoys writing in LA where it is often very sunny and it’s also where he wrote his debut album: ‘album1’. He rented an Airbnb in Echo Park, LA, where he wrote most of the album with his friends.
